We’re telling you, it’s way more than you think.
When you take a look at what storage solution providers offer, the minimum size they’ll have on deck for you to rent out is usually one cubic meter (1 CBM). That’s a helpful detail to know, but we’re sure this question has come across your mind: What EXACTLY fits in 1 CBM? Have you thought about how big (or small) that space looks like and if all the things you want to store can fit in it? Well, the guessing game ends today.
First, have a quick look at our video below, and then let’s break things down.
A common misconception is that 1 CBM is the same as 1 square meter or 1 SQM. But the former measures three-dimensional space, while the latter measures it in two dimensions. One SQM refers to a square patch of ground that’s one meter in both dimensions (length and width). In a nutshell, this measurement talks about the area of a space. For 1 CBM, all three dimensions are considered (length, width, and height). This measurement refers to a cube worth of space that’s one meter all around. In essence, it measures the volume of a space.
So even if we’ve debunked that misconception, the question still stands: What can you store inside 1 CBM?
To give you a quick idea using a real-life item, a standard 125-Liter insulated bag for delivery riders is usually 0.5 SQM all around or 0.125 CBM in volume. This tells us that eight bags stacked in two layers of fours will take up 1 CBM worth of space.
One CBM can also approximately fit both a washer and a dryer together.
A sofa that’s for two people will also fit in.
You can also place two bicycles in 1 CBM worth of space, and they will fit just fine.
You can opt to use this much space for ten large flower pots, too.
To maximize 1 CBM worth of space, it’s a practical idea to stack things up—pretty much like how you’d do it in Tetris. We’ve got that covered, too.
